A statement of intent for the work that I am involved in.

Environmental policy is any course of action deliberately taken (or not taken) to manage human activities with a view to prevent, reduce or mitigate harmful effects on nature and natural resources.

 John McCormick

The following bullet points highlight certain aspects of my work where my choices and actions can have a significant effect upon the environment.

  • Sourcing materials - Where ever possible materials are procured as locally as possible this often reduces greatly the energy used for transport of goods. I choose to support other businesses and organisations who demonstrate a commitment to energy efficiency and environmental good practice.
  • Current best practice - Every effort is made to keep abreast of current environmental thinking through journal subscription, NGO membership, necessary training and extensive reading. Every effort is made to adopt new ideas and work to find solutions.
  • Waste and efficiency - By embracing the 3 R's - Reduce, Re-use and Re-cycle waste is minimalised and an acceptable level of efficiency is reached.
  • Pollution Prevention - From biodegradable chain oil and non-spill spouts to material and machinery choice pollution prevention is crucial when working in natural, often fragile, habitats therefore great care is taken. Pesticide application is generally avoided but when application is appropriate the chemicals are targeted and used inline with UK and European regulation.
